Top Ten CDs That I Love

Last modified date

I get the pleasure of working from home. And, I’m quite productive. I like some background noise because it can be extremely quiet. So, I have a little CD player and a small CD tower. I rotate through the CDs in the tower during the week. Here are the top ten CDs that I love.

10 – Def Leppard Greatest Hits

I wasn’t a big Def Leppard fan when they were popular. But, I kept hearing their songs on the radio and learned to appreciate their songs. Of course, I like “Pour Some Sugar On Me” and I always did. But, I found new appreciation for “Love Bites“, “Rocket“, “Rock of Ages” and “Hysteria.” When I listen to this CD, I’m amazed at how many hit songs they had. A lot of the songs were forgotten until now.

9 – Styx Greatest Hits

The classics are classic. That is songs like “Lady“, “Too Much Time On My Hands“, “Babe“, “Fooling Yourself“, “Renegade“, “Come Sail Away“, “Blue Collar Man” and “The Grand Illusion.” But, I find that I like some of the non-classics more. “Lorelei” and “Miss America” are masterpieces. There isn’t a bad song on this CD.

8 – Queen Greatest Hits I and II

Queen is one of my favorite groups. They are one of a kind. And, I’ll tell you that every song on this two CD set is worth it. Of course, it includes all of the classics like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Killer Queen.” But, the second CD intrigues me. I love “Radio Gaga“. But, a lot of the tracks are from Queen’s later days. And, they are so good. This list includes songs like “A Kind of Magic“, “Innuendo” and “Breakthru“. I’ll admit that I play some of these songs on YouTube when I get bored.

7 – The Essential Journey

I grew up with Journey. When I had to drive across the country, I had the Journey Infinity cassette tape playing a lot. “Wheel in the Sky” and “Lights” were blaring. But, this CD has all of the classics and more. I am a little worn out by “Don’t Stop Believin’“, but I really like songs like “Send Her My Love“, “When You Love a Woman“, “The Eyes of a Woman” and “The Party’s Over“. This is a great two CD set.

6 – The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac made so many great hits. Lindsey Buckingham is an under appreciated guitarist and songwriter. Of course, Stevie Nicks is a legend. But, Christine McVie is also underrated. She sings a lot more songs than I thought. The CD contains all of their smash hits. But, I’m kind of fond of some of the more unrecognized hits like “Never Going Back Again“, “What Makes You Think You’re the One“, “World Turning“, “No Questions Asked” and “Paper Doll“. This is a great background CD when working.

5 – Essential Billy Squier

I always liked Billy Squier, but I never bought one of his records. And, I must have been nuts. This CD proved that. There are 15 songs and every one of them is super. It kicks off with “Everybody Wants You” and wraps up with “Angry“. I particularly like “Don’t Say You Love Me“, and I confess that sometimes I repeat the song when I can. Every song is amazing.

4 – David Bowie – Legacy

Like Billy Squier, I liked David Bowie and never bought one of his records. So, I grabbed the opportunity to buy the “Legacy” CD. What a smart move. I like every song. Forty of his songs are on a two CD set. Classics like “Space Oddity“, “Fame” and “Heroes” are nice, but I love some of the less recognized songs like “I’m Afraid of Americans“, “Sound and Vision” and “Thursday’s Child“. I realize that he was a genius when I listen to this CD, and I never appreciated him as much as I should have.

3 – The Who – The Ultimate Collection

I always liked The Who, but I never bought one of their records. So, I took a chance and bought this CD. That was one of the best decisions I made. I know a lot of their songs like “Baba O’Riley“, “Who Are You” and “Eminence Front“. But, their hits from the 1960s and early 1970s like “I Can’t Explain“, “Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere” and “A Legal Matter” are gems that I didn’t know about. This is great to listen to over and over.

2 – Three Dog Night – The Complete Hit Singles

When I was young, I loved songs by the Three Dog Night. To be honest, I kind of forgot about them. So, I asked for their Hit Singles CD for Christmas. When I got it, I immediately played the CD. It was a beautiful trip down memory lane. Of course, songs like “One“, “Celebrate“, “Joy to the World” and “Shambala” are true classic songs. But, it is incredible how many more songs are recognizable like “An Old Fashioned Love Song“. I’m mesmerized by the song “Liar“. I’m so glad I got this.

1 – Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band Greatest Hits

I never realized what a great singer Bob Seger was until I got this CD. Every song is good. It covers all of the classics like “Hollywood Nights“, “We’ve Got Tonight” and “Old Time Rock & Roll“. But, he hits a home run on “Roll Me Away” and “The Fire Inside“. It is just a pleasure when I hit this CD in my rotation.
