The Salvation Army released a racial reconciliation curriculum named “Let’s Talk About Racism” urging its members to apologize for past racial misdeeds. To make matters worse, they asked their donors to apologize for being white. Now they’re blaming a severe downturn of donations and lack of volunteers on coronavirus. But, I think we know better. You don’t criticize your donors before the biggest donation season of the year. The other woke organizations should pay attention to the Salvation Army lesson. Because you are likely next.
The Bell Ringers
It’s bad enough standing for hours in the cold weather ringing a bell. But, now people walk by without a glance. My heart goes out to these people. They are doing a great thing, but their organization put them in a position nobody should be put in.
I went shopping last night and passed two Salvation Army volunteers ringing their bells. I watched for a little while and not one person donated. In fact, the volunteers stopped ringing their bell. It was super cold and they were bundled from head to toe. It’s not their fault. It’s their organization’s fault.
Timing and Money
It’s not a good idea to turn away your donors before the holiday season. Inflation is already hurting people so there’s going to be hesitancy to donate anyway. But, now you have driven donors to find other organizations to donate to. Christian apologist and radio talk show host Greg Koukl recently wrote a letter to The Salvation Army informing them that he was terminating his monthly donations due to the initiative by The Salvation Army’s International Social Justice Commission.
Why?
When I read this kind of stuff, I sit and ask myself why these organizations do these things. If I went to work tomorrow and called every one of our customers racist, I would be fired on the spot. How do these decision makers get away with this? Especially when it results in the loss of millions of dollars. Why didn’t they do damage control? They quietly pulled down the “Let’s Talk About Racism” document. But, they should have taken accountability for the mistake and issued a public apology. But, organizations don’t apologize anymore. And they pay the price.
Who’s Next?
Who will be the next woke organization to destroy themselves? GoFundMe is now selectively deciding what goes on their website, so a boycott has started. Coca Cola was heavily involved in retaliating against Georgia’s new election laws. They even were involved in moving the baseball all star game out of Georgia. If you’re going to boycott them, be careful because they own a lot of soda brands.
Nabisco proudly announced a $500,000 donation to the anti-American, Marxist BLM movement and the NAACP. They have a lot of brands too, so beware. The National Football League is one of the most woke organizations in the world. And their coronavirus protocols are ridiculous. United Airlines announced their goal of ensuring that “at least half” of their new pilots will be women or “people of color” by the end of the decade. So much for winning a job based on your merits.
Conclusion
Maybe I’m the only person in the world who doesn’t understand why organizations make such bad decisions. But, I’m pretty sure I’m not. When I was younger, I always wondered what the world would be like when the 1970’s hippies would be in positions of power. Now we’re finding out.
