The Kidnapping of Mia Thomas

Last modified date

I watch a lot of crime shows on television. Especially, those about kidnapping and serial killers. Here is a fictional short story about the kidnapping of Mia Thomas.

The Morning

Mia was an innocent and pretty teenage girl

As usual, Mia got up late, and she had to rush to get ready for school. She was a 14 year old with beautiful long brown hair and blue eyes. Her father drove her and her older brother to school, so she yelled down that she was almost ready. When she got downstairs, she grabbed a granola bar and a water bottle and headed to the car. On the way, she realized that she forgot her phone, so she raced back into the house to grab it.

On the way to school, she noticed that she had a text message from a number she didn’t recognize. It said “Hi Mia. This is Jakob. Do you want to meet after school today?” There was a Jakob in her class that she had a crush on, but she couldn’t think of any other Jakobs. Thinking that it had to be the Jakob in her class, she excitedly responded “Definitely! What time and where?”

At School

All day, Mia was excited to meet Jakob after school. She looked for him several times to talk to him, but he was nowhere to be found. She told her best friend, Rene, about it. During the day, she got another text message from the same phone number saying “Can’t wait to see you later” with a heart emoji at the end.

After School

Jakob was a handsome teenage boy

As soon as school let out, Mia rushed to the practice football field to meet Jakob. The field was down a big hill next to the school. Since it was May, the field was not being used and it was empty. After a few minutes, she saw Jakob walking toward her. They exchanged hellos and he said he had a surprise for her, and to follow him.

He took her to the locker room. As they entered, two other boys jumped out and grabbed Mia. They threw her to the ground, and Jakob started tying her up. He put duct tape on her mouth to keep her quiet. Once she was restrained, one of the other boys ran to get his car and drive it across the field to the locker room door.

The Ride

They threw Mia in the car trunk and sped off. It was dark and she was getting thrown around, but she tried to memorize the stops and turns. After the fourth turn, she lost track. When they got to their destination, they opened the trunk and blindfolded Mia.

The Basement

They walked Mia a little distance, then she heard the clanging of metal. She was led down stairs into a rank smelling room. She heard the cries of other girls as she was led to a place and put in chains. They did not remove her blindfold, so all she could do was listen. She didn’t hear the guys any more.

Then, a girl asked her what her name was. She replied, “Mia.” The girl said, “Mia, it’s me. Yvette.” Yvette was one of Mia’s friends, and she hadn’t seen her in a few days. Mia asked her how she got there, and Yvette told a very similar story like how Mia got there.

The Auction

A little later Jakob and the guys came downstairs. They took pictures of the girls. Then, they disappeared back upstairs. They built an auction site on the Internet to sell the girls to the highest bidder. Mia was quite pretty and innocent, so she pulled in the highest bid of any of the girls.

After the auction, the guys came downstairs and unchained Mia. She was still tied up, and they led her back to the trunk of the car. They drove for a while, then opened the trunk and pulled her out. She was led inside a building, and she heard a man talking with a Russian accent.

They pulled off her blindfold, and the Russian man said “she is good.” He handed the guys a briefcase, and they pushed Mia toward him.

Married

The Russian man married the girl

As the Russian man led Mia to his car, he told her that she would be his wife. She jerked and tried to run, but he was too strong. He took her to a huge warehouse, and placed her in a cell among hundreds of other girls. She couldn’t believe this was happening to her.

The next day, he brought her a wedding dress, and told her to put it on. Once it was on, he led her to a room where a chaplain was waiting. He forced her to say the responses, and they were married. She was tied up for her own wedding.

The Russian man, her husband, visited her several times over the next few days. She was appalled by him. But, there was little she could do.

Gone Girl

She left on an airplane and disappeared forever

One day, the Russian man came to get her. He took her to take a shower, and he gave her fresh clothes to wear. Then, he gave her some kind of drug that made her feel like she was drunk. He took her to an airport, and led her to a plane. The plane took off, and Mia was never seen again.

Mia’s parents and brother looked for her for weeks, with no luck. Jakob even pretended to help them. The case went cold after a few months, and it was assumed that Mia was dead.

A few years later, Mia’s mother was watching a television show about eating food in different countries. This particular show was about Russian food. She thought to herself, that waitress is pretty. She reminds me of Mia. Then, she looked closer, and realized that it was Mia.
