Nothing From Nothing Leaves Nothing
In 1974, Billy Preston wrote a song named “Nothing From Nothing.” The entire chorus line is “Nothing from nothing leaves nothing”. I was sitting here thinking about the Republican choices for leadership in the Senate, House of Representatives and Republican National Committee, and this song jumped out at me. Although the interpretation of the song’s meaning may be different, I’m going to use the phrase as I interpret it in this post.
Senate
It really frightens me that not one Republican senator will challenge Mitch McConnell for Senate Minority Leader. Of course, the position should be Senate Majority Leader, but McConnell made sure that didn’t happen. The Democrats rig elections and McConnell rigs his leadership position. And, that is the state of our government.
Why in the world doesn’t Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Josh Hawley or some other sane senator step up as a leader? Is it too much work? Could it be too much responsibility? Are they lazy? Does McConnell have dirt on all of his competitors? Is it “pizza gate?”
And, that brings me to my point. Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. McConnell is a big nothing. But, if a bunch of Republican senators are a big nothing, then that leaves a big nothing. And, we end up with nothing. That, my friends, is the state of the broken Republican party!
House of Representatives
Don’t let anybody fool you. Kevin McCarthy will become Speaker of the House on January 3, 2023. Why? Because nobody else who would be awesome will challenge him. And, because the Republicans are terrified that a non-Republican might win. But, I say get some “Democrat backbone” and rig it for a person that is better than McCarthy. But, people like Marjorie Taylor Greene are satisfied with the status quo.
I played baseball as a child, and I was a pretty good shortstop. When I was promoted from Little League to Pony League, I was replaced at shortstop by the coach’s son. The coach’s son was not a very good shortstop. But, he played the position the entire year and the team had a bad season. This is the exact scenario as the House of Representatives. Play a player even if it isn’t the best player. Did you get that Marjorie?
Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. McCarthy is a big nothing. The representatives are a big nothing. And, that leaves you and me with nothing. A big, fat house majority nothing. What a waste!
RNC
The leader of the Republican National Committee (RNC) is one possibility where change could happen. I think current leader, Ronna (Romney) McDaniel, is vulnerable. As it turns out, she did some pretty sketchy things. But, based on the state of the Republican party, I would not be surprised at all if she is retained. The Republicans are famous for rewarding failure.
Although there are some very strong candidates, I am quite hesitant. How many times have we been burned in the past? Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. McDaniel is a big nothing. If they don’t change to get fresh ideas, then we are left with nothing yet again.
Conclusion
Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. This should be the mantra for everything politics in America. We get nothing because the Republicans do nothing. Complacency is the best word to describe the Republicans. They take the scraps left behind by the Democrats and treat them like filet mignon.
