If You Want Tomlin, Take Him

Last modified date

Mike Tomlin is the current coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers

Mike Tomlin has single-handedly destroyed the Pittsburgh Steelers football franchise. I have endured 17 years of his mediocrity with Tomlin. He went to two Super Bowls and won one. But the players were from the Cowher era. When I express my frustration to fans of other teams, they always say that they will take Tomlin as their head coach in a heartbeat. To that I say, if you want Tomlin, take him.

Evidence

Let’s examine the evidence supporting why Tomlin can leave.

  • The players are never prepared for a game.
  • The quarterback isn’t improving.
  • His assistant coaches are “junior varsity.”
  • He finally won his first challenge in 3 years.
  • Personnel decisions are horrible (i.e., Patrick Peterson).
  • Tomlin trades up in the first round of the draft to take a player, then sits the player.
  • Tomlin is blessed to have the first pick in the second round of the draft to take a player, then sits the player.

Cutesy

I have grown so tired of all of Tomlin’s “cutesy” little sayings. How about trying some humility and straight answers. Maybe he thinks this is his time to audition for speaking engagements, but I’m investing my time to watch the team I have always loved. And they stink. So, end the “cutesy” crap and have some accountability without your stupid sayings.

Canada

Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada isn’t going to magically get better. He is in so far over his head that he can’t see the field. Given his failures the past three seasons, he never should have been retained for this season. But Tomlin doesn’t want any coach on staff that threatens his position and football acumen. If a smart coordinator was on staff, Tomlin’s facade might be called out.

Conclusion

In conclusion:

  • Tomlin isn’t the right coach for the Steelers anymore.
  • Kenny Pickett isn’t the right quarterback for the Steelers anymore.
  • Tomlin hasn’t had a losing season in his career, but his playoff record is 8-9. That is a losing record.
  • Tomlin doesn’t care about the team. He only cares about building his brand for the future.
  • 17 years is too long. A change is needed. The players don’t buy into the program anymore.
  • It’s going to take years to fix Tomlin’s mess.
  • Either Kevin Colbert was a disaster at picking players or Tomlin and his coaches can’t develop those players. You can guess. I’ll give you a clue. Colbert was good at picking players.
