Dumb and Dumber
Remember the movie “Dumb and Dumber.” It is a comedy about two friends who find a suitcase full of money and take a trip across the country to return the money to the woman who lost it. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels play the two friends perfectly. The movie got a pretty high score on “Rotten Tomatoes.”
Andrew Cuomo and Bill de Blasio are not friends, but they are definitely dumb and dumber. Cuomo is the governor of New York and de Blasio is the mayor of New York City. Cuomo is the worst governor in the country. That’s quite an achievement considering he is in the company of Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer and Tom Wolf. Bill de Blasio is the worst mayor of New York City ever (Michael Bloomberg was a very close second), and also the worst mayor in the country. That’s also quite an achievement considering he is in the company of Ted Wheeler, Lori Lightfoot and Muriel Bowser.
Dumb – Bill de Blasio
I wasn’t sure which one was dumb and which one was dumber. It was too close to call. But, de Blasio wins for dumb.
Bill de Blasio couldn’t find his way out of a box with an opening on every side. New York City should be ashamed that they voted this man as the mayor of their city. They must have all been drunk that day or maybe votes were added and subtracted or multiplied by some percentages. Every time he steeps to a new low, he goes even lower the next day. He’s mind-boggling.
Dictator de Blasio
Bill de Blasio abused his power to handcuff New York City businesses, religious institutions, and schools. As we’ve seen in so many cases with these liberal elites, he also dined out in Chinatown after imposing restrictions on everybody else. To do such a thing hurts your constituents’ livelihoods, infringes on their freedom to worship, and puts our children in harm’s way and at an educational disadvantage. There is no room for dictators in America.
Missing in Action
While praising the police in Germany in July of 2017, de Blasio missed a vigil for the assassination of a Bronx police officer.
In May of 2019, de Blasio missed a memorial event for victims of toxic exposure to Ground Zero. Of course, he blamed his own staff for not telling him about it.
In June of 2019, de Blasio failed to show up for the Puerto Rican Day parade and veterans’ D-Day ceremonies because of his pathetic presidential campaign.
In July of 2019, New York City had a major power outage and de Blasio was in Iowa pretending to run for President. He failed to return to the city and he let others handle the situation in his absence.
Stoner
Bill de Blasio admits that he is/was a pot smoker. That doesn’t necessarily make him a bad person. But, he acts like he smoked a little too much in his day.
Handcuffing the Police
In one of the worst decisions in New York City history, de Blasio caved to the inane “defund the police” movement by cutting funding 17% and cancelling a new class of rookies. This was at a time when murders were up from the prior year. And, with retirements coming in droves because of police disrespect, the police were left extremely undermanned. Add in the state bail reform idiocy that puts criminals back on the streets because they can’t be held on bail, and the police are working extra for less money.
Backwards Thinking
Since there were too many White and Asian students in the gifted-and-talented school program, de Blasio wanted to terminate the program because there wasn’t enough diversity. It makes more sense to me to add diversity to the program rather than end the program.
One Good Thing
Bill de Blasio did one good thing. He called out Cuomo on his sexual harassment allegations and demanded that he resign. But, it’s only because he hates Cuomo’s guts.
Dumber – Andrew Cuomo
As of this writing, five women have come forward (and I just read six) alleging sexual harassment by Cuomo. Staffers are leaving his administration. Calls for his resignation are coming from everywhere, including his own Democratic party. Apparently, he is so angry that his staffers are living in fear. And what does he say? He says he won’t resign because it would be anti-democratic. I have no idea what that means. Maybe he’s waiting for ten women to come forward before resigning. But, it’s all about the power, not the women.
Clearly, there is a pattern of him disrespecting women. It is habitual behavior. The women are casualties of his position of power. They don’t mean anything to him. He should resign in shame.
Coronavirus and Nursing Homes
Cuomo played the political card on coronavirus and lost big. He decided to take on President Trump and try to make him look bad. When President Trump set up the Javits Center and sent the Navy ship to help New York, Cuomo didn’t use them. Instead, Cuomo decided to send coronavirus patients from hospitals to nursing homes resulting in a significant number of elderly deaths in New York. Knowing the despicable outcome of his decision, he misrepresented the death numbers in his reports so they wouldn’t look bad.
He was hailed as a hero for his coronavirus briefings, given an Emmy award, and wrote a book about his “amazing” coronavirus leadership. He was happy that President Trump wasn’t getting any credit for helping New York. Then, the bottom fell out as we learned more about his horrendous decision to murder nursing home patients. To this day, he accepts no responsibility for his actions.
Celebrating Murder
This particularly disgusts me. Cuomo is a Catholic. To celebrate the passage of the Reproductive Health Act, which allows termination of a pregnancy until the expected day of birth, he lit up the spire of One World Trade Center, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, the Kosciuszko Bridge, and the Alfred E. Smith Building in Albany. It’s irresponsible to sign this into law. It’s downright brazen to light up structures to celebrate murder. He was so proud that he did this stupid thing.
King Cuomo
Cuomo abused his emergency powers in New York to single-handedly handcuff restaurants and religious institutions. He imposed curfews and capacity limits on restaurants. And, he shut down religious institutions and imposed capacity limits on them when they were permitted to open. Rather than work with his constituents on a solution, he acted like a King and dictator, telling them what they could and could not do. What ever happened to working with people and treating them like adults instead of talking down to them?
Conclusion
These two “elected leaders” are anything but leaders. I can only hope that de Blasio doesn’t get re-elected and that Cuomo resigns or is impeached. They have set the bar high on ineptitude and abuse of power. The state of New York needs to wake up. They deserve better than this.
